Who runs this website?

Site manager Andrew Killick holding an instrument in his hand.

I’m Andrew Killick, an ethnomusicologist at the University of Sheffield, UK. I’ve been developing this “global” music notation system since 2016, initially for the purposes of the classes I teach on music of the world and a book I’m writing in which I want to discuss how sound is organized in many different kinds of music without requiring readers to be able to “read music” in the usual sense.

While I’ve built on many ideas that have been put forward by ethnomusicologists and notation reformers over the years, I’m responsible for Global Notation as it appears on this website. So far I’ve written all the content, but I encourage users to contribute ideas of their own to help develop the system.

If you’d like to know more about my work, please check out my personal web page. You are also welcome to email me at a.killick@sheffield.ac.uk.
